Steam Inhalations

Steam inhalations are a combination of steam and herbal antiseptic ingredients that can help clear up colds, asthma, bronchitis, hay fever and sinusitis. To make a steam inhalation, pour one quart of water that has just been boiled, into a large bowl. Add 5 - 10 drops of essential oil and stir well. If essential oil is not available, make an infusion by brewing 1 ounce of the recommended herb in one quart of hot water for 15 minutes.

Lean over the bowl without getting too close and cover your head and the bowl with a large towel. Keeping your eyes closed, inhale the steam for about ten minutes or until the preparation cools. After a steam inhalation, it is advisable to stay in a warm room for at least thirty minutes to allow passages to adjust and mucus to clear.
